Okpebholo, Asue, Shaibu Wins in Edo Guber Primaries

Senator Monday Okpebhelo of All Progressives Congress, APC has been returned as the governorship candidate of the party, following the repeat primary that was allegedly conducted.
The new chairman of the Edo State APC primary election committee, Governor Bassey Otu declared Okpebhelo as the winner having reportedly scored 12,432 votes.

The latest outcome is a contrast of the result that was declared by the Governor Hope Uzodinma primary election committee that declared Dennis Idahosa winner of the earlier primary conducted by the governor.
Declaring Okpebholo as winner, Otu said: “Senator Monday Okpebholo having satisfied all the request requirements of the party and scoring the highest number of votes cast in this Edo State governorship primary is hereby declared the winner.”

Also, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP yesterday February 22, 2024 declared Mr. Asue Ighodalo as winner of the parallel primary that was conducted by Dauda Lawal, Governor of Zamfara Zamfara State at Ogbe Stadium.
Lawal said Ighodalo secured 577 votes to defeat other aspirants in the race, some of whom were present at the event.

“I, therefore, declare Asuelimen Ighodalo the winner of this concluded primary today with a total vote of 577,” Lawal said
Ighodalo was the preferred candidate of Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo.
Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo, hard earlier won the parallel governorship primary organised at a different venue in Benin City, after over 300 delegates were refused access to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
