The family of the late Chief Daniel Osi Orbih has announced the funeral arrangements for the prominent Edo political leader, who died on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Orbih, a former National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South-South, died at the age of 64. His death was announced by the family, which described him as a beloved brother, husband, father and uncle.

In Abuja, a Requiem Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 7, at 4:00 p.m. at the Catholic Church of the Assumption, 2 Kwame Nkrumah Crescent, Asokoro, Abuja.

This will be followed by a Night of Tributes at 7:00 p.m. the same day at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Garki, Abuja.

The funeral activities will thereafter shift to Edo State, with the deceased’s arrival and a motorcade scheduled for Friday, October 9.

According to the programme, the cortege will arrive at Benin Airport, followed by a flag stop at his residence. At 10:00 a.m., the motorcade will depart for Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area, his home community.

A Vigil Mass is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Ogbona.
The Funeral Mass will hold at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, at the same church, St. John’s Catholic Church, Ogbona.

The funeral programme will conclude with a Thanksgiving Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 11, also at St. John’s Catholic Church, Ogbona.

Orbih’s death has elicited tributes from political leaders and institutions in Edo State and beyond. He served for several years as chairman of the Edo State PDP and later as the party’s National Vice Chairman, South-South. He was also, until his death, Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.

His tenure at AAU was however imperilled by reported brickbats from the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Eunice Eboserehimen Omonzejie.

The funeral arrangements now set the stage for a week of tributes and final rites in Abuja and Ogbona in Edo, culminating in his interment in his home community of Ogbona.
