Ekpeson Has Redefined Edo ALGON, Says Supporter

The Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Area and Edo State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson, has been commended for what his supporters describe as a new approach to grassroots leadership and coordination among the 18 local government areas of the state.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by Comrade John Okpetu, who described Ekpeson as a “game changer” whose emergence as Edo ALGON chairman had brought greater visibility to the association and its role in local government administration.
According to Okpetu, one of the notable initiatives associated with Ekpeson’s administration was the payment of a 13th-month salary to workers, which he said was aimed at cushioning the financial pressure experienced by workers in January.
He said the gesture demonstrated what he described as Ekpeson’s emphasis on workers’ welfare and humane leadership.
Okpetu also credited the ALGON chairman with fostering greater unity and coordination among the 18 local government chairmen in Edo State.
He said Ekpeson had provided a platform for the chairmen to articulate common positions and coordinate their activities, while aligning grassroots administration with the SHINE Agenda of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The statement further highlighted Ekpeson’s political activities, particularly his directive that the 18 local government councils wear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-branded caps during official meetings as a demonstration of support for the President.
Okpetu said the move was also intended to reinforce the commitment previously expressed in Edo State to deliver 3.5 million votes for Tinubu.
On Ekpeson’s role at the state and national levels, Okpetu said the council chairman had remained actively engaged in ALGON affairs in Benin City instead of limiting his activities to Etsako East.
He argued that Ekpeson’s continued participation in state and national ALGON engagements had helped demonstrate that the association could function as an active platform for local government coordination.
“Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpeson is not just a chairman, he is a movement. A pacesetter and a leader for such a time as this,” Okpetu stated.
He added: “Edo ALGON is working because Sunny Ekpeson is working.”
