President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he presented his Certificate of Return following his victory in the August 15 governorship election. Adeleke arrived at the State House at about 5:25pm for the meeting with the President.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Adeleke the winner after he polled 511,067 votes on the platform of the Accord Party to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 444,815 votes.

Adeleke won by a margin of 66,252 votes, emerging victorious in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.

President Tinubu had personally congratulated Adeleke following the declaration of the results, describing the outcome as “a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our country.”
The President also urged the governor to unite the people of Osun State, irrespective of their political affiliations or choices during the election.

Accompanying Adeleke to the Presidential Villa were the Director-General of his Campaign Council, Senator Lere Oyewumi; a member of the council, Sunday Bisi; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Akinleye Kazeem; and the member representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Bamidele Salam.

Adeleke’s re-election has attracted considerable political interest, particularly because he contested under the Accord Party after the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) adopted his candidacy and directed its structures to support his bid.

His visit to Tinubu is therefore being closely watched against the backdrop of increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting also comes amid the President’s recent engagements with political leaders and other key stakeholders as preparations for the 2027 political season intensify.
The encounter between Tinubu and Adeleke could consequently assume wider political significance beyond the presentation of the governor’s Certificate of Return, particularly as alliances and political calculations continue to take shape ahead of the next general election.
