Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of Anambra State has sacked some revenue officers for allegedly molesting some motorists plying the roads in the state.
Chairman of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AiRS), Dr Greg Ezeilo, who disclosed this in Awka, Tuesday, explained that the culprits were arrested shortly after a viral video showed where the revenue collectors manhandled an Edo transporter that was trying to evade revenue.
According to Ezeilo, the dismissed staff showed overzealousness and conduct that portrayed bad image and demeaned the reputation of the Anambra state government.
“We have also had a similar situations where a shuttle bus driver experienced the same treatment and we had to come and take necessary actions because the administration of Gov Charles Soludo has zero tolerance for that kind of behaviour,” he added.
He further maintained that the AiRS had set up a surveillance team comprising 21 members with a view to monitor the activities of revenue collectors in the State but they would operate secretly without uniforms.
Ezeilo added that the current uniform of the Unified Hybrid Enforcement Team (UBET) would be changed to another colour which would be costly for fake operators to obtain, as well as have digitally certified numbers for easy identification of fake revenue agents.
