The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) seems to have lost bearings as opposition party in Nigeria, going by the discordant chanting by leaders and members of the party.
The latest jarring is coming from the Abia State chapter of the Party, from where some leaders have attacked the former Senate President and acting PDP Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, who has reportedly endorsed the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, for a second term.
The Party in a statement signed by its Vice Chairman, Abia North, Abraham Amah, accused Wabara, to have made the endorsement during the recent flag-off of the reconstruction of Aba-Port-Harcourt road, by Governor Otti.
According to the statement, Wabara was quoted to have described the Abia governor as “a reliable and true man of honour who is also a master strategist that deserved a second term in office as Abia governor.”
Wabara’s statement has not received the blessing of Abia State PDP, who in the statement, said the former Senate President spoke for himself.
“The Abia PDP dissociates itself with the said statement which presents Senator Wabara as someone who has either lost touch with the reality, is not at home with the undercurrents of Abia politics or one who probably spoke under the influence of some elements.
“While we recognize his entitlement to his personal opinions on issues relating to governance in Abia State and Nigeria, the Abia PDP is constrained to warn that such a highly placed official of the PDP who failed to deliver his unit for the Party during the last election should be mindful of his conduct and statements in the public, especially if the person is not well versed on the issue at core.
“The Party has appropriate channels of communication which must not be breached by any officer, no matter how highly placed.” The statement said.
Abia PDP leaders have also accused Wabara of dabbling the second flag off of the Abia-Port-Harcourt road project, while explaining that the former PDP administration in Abia State under Okezie Ikpeazu should also claim some credit for the project as it executed the drainages on the road.
Wabara has dabbled into “…the matter without knowing the history and facts about the road project.” His accusers insisted.
