Edo Polls: "We'll Reset the State, Hold Oba Ewuare, Others in High Esteem - Sen. Okpebholo

With the comencement of political campaigns for the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, has pledged to respect and preserve the cultural heritage of Edo State, especially the Palace of Oba Oba Ewuare II.

The grassroots politician and industrialist condemned the current administration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for what disrespetowards traditional institutions.

Senator Okpebholo voiced his disapproval In a statement yesterday, Wednesday April 24.

“Our traditional institutions have been messed up by state actors.

“The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II, and other Royal Fathers will be held in high esteem, unlike the Peoples Democratic Party’s disrespectful arrogance towards our traditional institutions,” Okpebholo said.

The man who prides himself as a honest, people-centric Nigerian emphasized that he and his running mate are elected officials and therefore have prior experience as members of the National Assembly, where they are representing their constituents.

Okpebholo dismissed his opponents, particularly the puppet who is angling to talk his way into government house without any good record of service.

“He is an inexperienced ‘baby politicians’ who rely solely on his Nollywood acting skills and public speaking ‘wayo’, but lack the necessary credentials for victory.

“We shall teach him and his puppeteer a lesson they would not forget on Election Day.

“When we unveil our manifesto and campaign team, we will hit the ground running. For us, this is a marathon, and we will win the race in the end. No amount of intimidation or blackmail will derail us.

“We are in this contest to win, and rescue the state from a gang of ‘Plan-Well’ financial wizards who have cornered public and private resources to themselves.

“We will take over Edo State by the grace of God, reset, reclaim and give it back to the people, ” Okpebholo declared.

The easy soft spoken but stringent senator also assured that contractors working on federal roads in Edo State, have resumed work on after his intervention alongside His Excellency Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the leader of the Edo APC.

He added also that more capital projects would be secured when the APC reclaim the state on behalf of the people and collaborates with the federal the government.

Okpebholo urged his loyalists and supporters to remain calm and focused, while advising them not to be provoked into causing unrest in the state, because freedom is by the corner. The freedom he said will come with the victory of APC.

“I and my running mate, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, along with other party faithful, will directly address the people during the campaigns.

“We will address the concerns of the farmers, property owners, market men and women, parents, community leaders and students to ensure inclusivity, and provide reasons why they should entrust us with the opportunity to serve.”

While reassuring that he will be a promise keeper, Okpebholo said: “Our words would be our bond, and we shall not deceive the people.”
