Breaking: Security Aide Allegedly Restricts Edo Dep Gov’s Access to Obaseki… “Ambition is Personal and Does Not Affect Loyalty”, Shaibu Insist
By Reporter
The Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu today August 27, 2023, reiterated his commitment to Mr. Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Edo State.
He insisted that he will continue to support Obaseki as Governor of Edo State from beginning to the end, but added that, his loyalty does not stop anything that has to do with his ambition.
“My loyalty to the governor remains absolute. I see that everybody is doing solidarity.
“I am also in solidarity with the governor. I am also declaring my unalloyed solidarity and loyalty to the governor and nothing more.
“As for the issues that are around town when I was away, I really would not want to talk.
“Issues that concern my governor are not things I like to speak about on camera. No, no, no! He is my elder brother and boss and I don’t think I should talk about anything.
“And if I have issues with him, I think it is better settled at home and not in the media. I am well brought up.”
Shaibu spoke to reporters during today’s thanksgiving service held in Benin to mark the 32nd anniversary of the creation of Edo State.
“I can tell you that from my Christian background, if you make a vow with God that you want to do something, you must fulfill it.
“And the vow I have taken with God is that I will continue to support Godwin Obaseki as the governor of Edo State from the beginning to the end.
It will be recalled that Obaseki had openly accused his deputy of planning a coup against him, during a campaign rally in Edo North.
While receiving some selected party loyalists from Akoko Edo, led by Mr. Kabiru Ajoto, the governor repeated the accusation that his deputy plotted a coup to impeach him.
Obaseki’s accusations, further deepened the rift between the duo.
Strangely, Comrade Shaibu has downplayed the rift, declining to make public comments about Obaseki.
Meanwhile worshipers at today’s prayer session that was organised to mark the 32 years anniversary of the creation of Edo State, were treated to a melodrama today in government house, venue of the worship service.
The drama started when the deputy governor came in and made attempt to approach the governor, but was waded off. A young aide, suspected to be the governor’s security aide was seen standing between the two warring political leaders in Edo State.
The scene attracted onlookers as the watched in disbelief. Reporters also reported that no seat was reserved for Comrade Philip Shaibu at the state event and he was offered space at the aisle of the hall.
