The appeal court has upheld judgment of the tribunal, and dismissed the petitions filed against the declaration of Dennis Idahosa as the winner of the Ovia Federal Constituency election held on February 25. The court ruled that the petitions lacked merit and were incompetent
The petitioners, Epele Asemota of the Labour Party (LP) and Barr Omosede Igbinedion of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), separately approached the court to challenge Idahosa’s victory. They accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of not complying with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, during the conduct of the election.

Asemota and Igbinedion also alleged that the APC candidate’s election victory was tainted by irregularities such as overvoting and multiple thumbprinting. They further claimed that the BVAS machine was not utilized during the election.
However, the appeal court dismissed both petitions, stating that they lacked merit and were incompetent. The court highlighted that the petitioners failed to provide any evidence to support their cases.
