President Bola Tinubu has met with the Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, the former governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili, and some other leaders from the state at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, this Monday evening, over the lingering political crisis in the State.

The governor has been locked in supremacy battle with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister.

Tinubu terms for resolution

The President discussed the spiralling crisis including the declaration of in the seats of 27 out of 32 members of the State House of Assembly, who are loyalists of the FCT Minister, that defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress, (APC).

Others who attended the meeting include the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the Rivers State deputy governor.

According to an agreement that was jointly signed at the end of the meeting, Governor Fubara is expected to reverse all actions that he taken since the commencement of hostility in Rivers State.

The document which is titled “Directive for the Resolution of the political impasse in Rivers State”, demanded that: “All matters instituted in the courts by the Governor of Rivers Stat, Sir Fubara, and his tam, in respect of the political crisis in Rivers State, shall b withdrawn immediately.

“All impeachement proceceedings initiated against the Governor of Rivers State by the Rivers State House of Assembly should be dropped immediately.

“The leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly as led by the Rt. Hon. Martin Amawhule shall be recognised alongside the 27 membrs who rsigned from PP.

“The remunerations and benefits of all members of Rivers State House of Assembly and their staff must be reinstated immediately and the Governor of River State shall henceforth not interfere with the funding of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“The Rivers State House of Assembly shall choose where they want to sit and conduct their legislative business without interference and/hinderance from the Executive arm of government.”

The agreement added that: “The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Fubara, shall re-present the state budget to a properly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly’

“The names of all commissioners in the Rivers State Executive Council who resigned their appointments because of the political crisis in the state should be resubmitted to the House of Assembly for approval.”

And finally, the agreement stated that: “There should not be a caretaker committee for the local government in Rivers Stat. Th dissolution of the Local Government administration is null an void and shall not be recognized.”

The agreement was signed by Governor Fubara, his Deputy, Prof Odu, Aaron Chukwuamaka, Rivers State PDP chairman, Martin Chike Amaewhule, Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, chief Tony Okocha, Chairman APC River State, Nyesom Wike, FCT Minister and Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser.
