The political dynamics in Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may become more complex with Earl Osaro Onaiwu, who has kept his promise to contest the party’s governorship ticket.
The founding Director-General of the PDP Governors Forum, who picked his expression of interest form from the PDP headquarters in Abuja last Monday January 15, 2024, told Midwest Herald that he was ready more than ever before, to be the change do people are asking for.
This move officially indicates his readiness to contest the 2024 gubernatorial primaries of the party.

The seasoned and tested politician, has a deep understanding of Edo culture and traditions that is urgently needed now to heal a state that has been deeply divided by politics of ethnic divide that has been introduced by Governor Godwin Obaseki. This understanding, combined with his empathetic nature and familiarity with the aspirations of Edo people, has positioned him as a formidable option as a way out of the conflict in PDP.
One of his key promises is to establish an all-inclusive government that places the needs of the people at the forefront. He believes in harnessing the collective power of the Edo people to drive progress and development in the state. This approach aligns with the desires of many citizens who yearn for a leader who truly listens and represents their interests.
Furthermore, Onaiwu said he is determined to run an issue-based campaign that focuses on policies and initiatives, rather than resorting to insults and pettiness.
With the stage now set for the commencement of the proper campaign, Onaiwu added that he is “poised to bring about positive change in Edo State politics.
“My candidacy represents a breath of fresh air in a sometimes divisive landscape, and my commitment to the Edo people’s welfare is undeniable.”
As the primaries draw nearer, it will be interesting to see how Earl Onaiwu’s campaign gains momentum. Observers are waiting to see how he galvanizes the support needed to secure the party’s ticket.
One thing is certain, however – Earl Onaiwu’s entrance into the race has injected a new energy and optimism into Edo politics, which he says, will “…offer a beacon of hope for the future of the state.”
Will he be able to harness the massive support he enjoys from majority of the former governors and current governors in Nigeria from both PDP and APC? Will Onaiwu most likely be a consensus candidate for the PDP? The next four weeks will tell.
