Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe Phd, OON has formally stepped aside from the 2024 Governorship contest.

Dr. Umakhihe had earlier emerged as one of the six top contenders from a pack of 29 aspirants, after going through the Prof. Julius Ihonbvere’s screening committee.

In a message sent to Midwest Herald, Dr. Umakhihe cited his decision to respect the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the ticket outside Edo North Senatorial District, and his readiness to respect the APC decision.

Below is the message he personally signed to his supporters and APC leaders:

“Good morning, family, friends and fans.

“It’s with all sense of gratitude that I inform you all that the journey we  started together has come to a temporary end last night.

“This is so because my great party, the APC, has zoned the governorship out of Edo North. It is still victory for us, as in less than three weeks, we made so much incursion into the political space of Edo state.

“We will definitely be rewarded in due time.

“Inform your groups, friends, and our fans, please.

Thank you all.”

Dr. Afolabi ran a well rounded campaign that cumulated in an audacious flag off in Afuze, headquarters of Owan East Local Government Area, Edo State. The former Permanent Secretary is a distinguished administrator with hands-on experience in leadership.

His ‘Fresh Hope Agenda’ attracted several disciples to his call to enthrone a government with ‘human face’in 2024.

It will be recalled that Midwest Herald earlier reported that the All Progressives Congress had zoned their governorship ticket to Edo South.
