Edo LG Councils: Court Sets Aside Mandatory Order Against State, EDHA, Others…Chairmen To Face EFCC Investigation

Eo State Government and the State House of Assembly have received the green light to suspend the eighteen local government council chairmen, after a Benin High Court vacated the mandatory injunction which restrained the state and the State House of Assembly from interfering with the councils.

Today, February 17, 2025, the Court presided over by Honourable Justice Efe Ikpomwonba in a suit filed by Oluwole Osaze Uzzi Esq, immediate past Attorney General of Edo State on behalf of the 18 Local Government Councils and the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), vacated and discharge the Mandatory injunction it earlier issued on the 20th of December 2024 upon a Motion filed by the Attorney General of Edo State and argued by K. O Obamogie, SAN.

With this development, the 18 Local government chairmen that were earlier suspended by the State House of Assembly, and impeached by their respective councilors, and also indicted by the state government administrative panel of inquiry, are expected to face further investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

It will be recalled that the Local Government Council chairmen had prior to their suspension by the Edo State House of Assembly on 16th December 2024 approached an Edo State High Court for an interim and mandatory injunctions which was granted .

The state through the Office of the Attorney General, filed an application for the discharge of the said Order, which was granted today.
