The Government of Edo State has renamed the local security outfit, Edo State Security Network ( ESSN) to Edo State Security Corps (ESSC).
The action is sequel to the lifting of the ban placed on the group by the Inspector General of Police shortly before the September 21, 2024 Governorship Election in the state.
The latest development was announced in a statement issued by government today November 29, 2024.
According to the release, Governor Okpebholo described the restoration as a critical step toward bolstering the state’s security framework.
“The decision made by the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, marks a comprehensive shift in the state’s quest for enhanced safety and security.
“With the successful conduct of the gubernatorial election, the Edo State Government has deemed it necessary to reinstate the security outfit. This move aims to bolster the state’s security apparatus and ensure the safety of its citizens,” the release said.
Officers of the former ESSN directed to report to their respective zonal offices across the three senatorial zones in the state.
“This directive aims to ensure a seamless transition and the effective deployment of the Security Corps,” the statement explained.
