The Inpector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has finally ordered the ban of the state-owned Edo State Security Network (ESSN) set up by outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The IGP gave the order at the ongoing stakeholders meeting on the Edo Governorship Election taking place in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The meeting is put together by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as part of the schedule of activities leading to the September 21, 2024 election.

The call for the proscription of the notorious ESSN heightened after their members where fingered in the murder of Police Inspector Onuh Akor at the Benin City Airport exit and over fears that they would be used to compromise the outcome of the September 21, 2024 election.
