One of the defeated governorship aspirant of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Kenneth Imansuangbon, has given the leadership of his party one week ultimatum to declare him winner of the party primary.

But at the same time, Imansuangbon has claimed that the processes that led to the conduct of the ward congresses were corrupted by several irregularities despite assurances from the leadership of the party to provide a “fair level playing field.”

Victorious LP Candidate, Olumide Akpata

The legendary governorship aspirant, in a statement, went ahead to issue a one week ultimatum to the LP’s leadership to reverse the decision that declared Akpata as the party’s candidate.

In the alternative, Ken Imasuagbon has threatened to drag LP to court if the party refuses to declare him candidate for the September 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo State.

Imansuangbon praised the APC and the PDP for picking their candidates from Edo Central Senatorial District and noted that if the LP was serious in winning the governorship election it would learn from the strategic calculation of All Progressives Congress, APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Imansuangbon who has contested to be governor of Edo State, since 2007 on all the major political parties in Nigeria, also accused the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure and the State Chairman, Kelly Ogbaloi of favouring the LP candidate, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata.

Some Labour Party leaders who spoke with Midwest Herald have accused Imansuangbon of wrongful accusations. According to them, they are alleging that, it was Imansuangbon who tried to compromise those he is now blaming for his failure.

“We knew how he gave money to those persons he has turned around to accuse of not providing level playing field. The truth is, those he gave money to, tried but they were overpowered by superior planning and the determination to rescue the party from the vise-hold of ethnic bigots.” An LP leader, Aideloje Umoru said in a chat with Midwest Herald on Imansuangbon’s threat.

“The fact that he is praising APC and PDP for producing candidates from Edo Central has exposed him as a cheap tribal warlord and ethnic bigot who sees people from other parts of Edo State as racial or ethnic groups with hatred and intolerance,” Aibuedefe Favour countered Imansuangbon.

Imasuagbon’s statement reads: “I want to first of all use this opportunity to thank my well wishers and staff of Pacesetters Schools for standing by me during my political sojourn. I also extend my thanks to Edo people and my supporters across the state.

“My interest in politics is to change the narratives of Edo and improve on the lives of the people. I want an Edo where jobs would be available, where food will be cheap, where our teeming unemployed youth will be meaningfully engaged but the godfathers refused democracy to strive in Edo.

“After 21 years in politics, I do not think it is proper or politically right for political parties to skew party primary to favour a particular candidate. I hope, one day, democracy will be allowed to strive in Edo.

“I have worked hard in the last 21 years to impact on lives of our suffering Edo people with my hard earned personal resources, unfortunately anti-democratic forces will not allow the free will of the people to prevail.

“I am issuing a one week ultimatum to the leadership of LP to reverse the recognition of Akpata as our party’s candidate. I should be declared winner.”
