Breaking: Keyamo Orders Closure of MMIA, Demolition of Hangars, Suspension of Concessions, Others

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, has directed all international airlines to vacate airport’s grounds to make room for extensive maintenance work at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, from October 1, 2023.
According to the Minister, the action will give room for total maintenance work at the airport. He further directed the airlines and companies operating in the airport to move to MMIA Terminal 2.
Keyamo said this during a tour of the airport in Lagos, today August 31, 2023. He was accompanied by the Managing Director, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Kabir Yusuf Mohammed.
Keyamo also suspended all contracts, projects, and concessions in the aviation sector until further notice.
“All airlines should vacate the MMIA before the 1st of October, 2023 and relocate to MMIA Terminal 2.” The Minister said.
The Aviation Minister expressed dismay about the poor sanitation at the airport, and ordered the immediate demolition of some hangars. He said the demolition was necessary to pave way for the expansion of the airport.
