The Management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, has asked students to vacate the institution, while announcing an immediate cancellation of academic activities in the state owned university.
The closure has affected resumption of studies and the ongoing examination as well as the 140th Inaugural lecture which was slated for January 15, 2026.
According to a statement signed by Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, Head, of Information, the decision “aims to complete ongoing renovation works on student structures and facilities, enhancing the overall teaching and learning experience.”
It added that: “Students currently occupying hostel accommodations are advised to vacate immediately to facilitate renovation works. A new resumption date will be announced soon.
“The postponement also affects the 140th Inaugural Lecture, scheduled for January 15, 2026, and ongoing examinations. New dates will be communicated later.”
However, it wi5be recalled that the student of Ambrose Alli University had joined other protesters last week in Ekpoma to protest against incessant kidnappings and cult related violence in the locality.
The State Governor Monday Okpebholo while addressing the protesters had warned against attempts by “unscrupulous individuals or groups to exploit public sentiments to destabilize the peace and security of the state.”
He added that, his administration “will not allow criminals or their sponsors to take Edo State hostage. Anyone involved in kidnapping, cultism, or any form of criminality will be tracked down and brought to justice. There will be no hiding place for perpetrators.”
