It was jubilation in Orhionmwon Local Government on Monday as the Senator representing Edo South, Neda Imasuen, officially flagged off the construction of the Irohkin–Abudu road, linking several communities.

The project, expected to be completed by December 2025, is designed to ease transportation, enhance access to markets, and boost economic activities in the agrarian community.

Speaking at the ground-breaking, Senator Imasuen, who chairs the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, said the road was a deliberate intervention to tackle rural neglect.

“The reason why we brought this project to the community is because of the apparent neglect of our rural areas. Rural–city migration happens largely because development does not reach our people. This road will change that story,” he said.

He added that the project would serve farmers in particular, helping them move produce from farms to urban markets, while also strengthening communal ties. “This is just the beginning. By the grace of God, we will do more to ensure our rural populace enjoy some measure of comfort like those in the cities,” he assured.

Senator Imasuen emphasised that the road would be delivered on schedule. “The timeframe is clear. Expected delivery is December, and I don’t see why it should extend beyond that,” he stated confidently.

Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Commissioner in Edo State, Aisowieren Patrick, lauded the initiative, describing it as a life-changing intervention for the people.

“This project will be of immense benefit to the community. It will aid commerce, strengthen livelihoods, and bring hope. We are grateful to our senator, and we assure him of our continuous support,” Patrick said.

According to the statement released by Senator Imasuen’s office, the Irohkin–Abudu road project adds up to other road projects he has attracted to Edo South constituency.
