BENIN CITY — The Management of BEDC Electricity Plc. has appealed to the Edo State Government and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to urgently resolve their differences to enable the company to resume full operations and restore electricity supply across the state.
The appeal follows a recent agreement between BEDC management and the national leadership of the NLC, which paved the way for the restoration of electricity supply and the resumption of operations in Ondo, Delta and Ekiti states. Edo, however, remains an exception due to what BEDC described as a “peculiar issue” between the state chapter of the NLC and the Edo State Government.
According to the company, the failure of both parties to reach a compromise has prevented it from resuming official operations in Edo, leaving residents, businesses, schools, hospitals and other critical institutions without normal access to electricity.
BEDC expressed concern over the continued disruption of power supply and its impact on residents and economic activities, stressing that citizens should not be made to bear the consequences of the unresolved dispute.
The company also reacted to reports of the forceful arrest of protesters, observing that such actions were not the best approach to resolving industrial disagreements.
It urged all parties to embrace dialogue, peaceful engagement and negotiation to achieve an amicable and speedy resolution in the interest of Edo residents.
BEDC reaffirmed its commitment to providing reliable electricity supply and efficient service delivery across its franchise states, stating that it was ready to resume full operations in Edo once the impasse was resolved.
The company appealed to the state government and labour leaders to prioritise the welfare of citizens and find common ground to end the disruption, allowing households, businesses and essential public institutions to regain normal access to electricity.
