EFCC Quizzes Edo LG Chairs Over Alleged Financial Misappropriation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thursday and Friday quizzed all 18 Local Government Council Chairmen in Edo State, over alleged diversion of funds from the council’s coffers.

All the chairmen were earlier invited to the EFCC Benin City office following a petition written against them by the State governor, Monday Okpebholo.

Similarly, Edo State House of Assembly had on Tuesday December 17, 2024, passed a resolution suspending the chairmen and their vice chairmen for two months following similar petition sent to the lawmakers by the governor.

The petition was a reaction to the refusal of the chairmen to submit financial records of their local governments to the state government, despite the directive.

Midwest Reporter who visited the EFCC office today, saw the last batch of nine chairmen, leaving the premises after their interrogation.

The spokesman of the anti-corruption agency, Mr. Dele Oyewale, also confirmed to reporters that, the chairmen were at the Benin City office for questioning.
