Edo Queens have received a strong show of support ahead of their campaign in the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B qualifiers in Burkina Faso, with the club’s Chairman, Chief Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, calling for prayers across Edo State for the team’s success.

Tenebe disclosed that Masses had been booked in Catholic churches across the state for the team, while urging other Christian denominations and Muslim communities to join in praying for the players and officials.

“I have booked a Mass for Edo Queens in all Catholic churches across Edo State, praying for victory and success as our girls embark on this important journey to Burkina Faso,” Tenebe said.

He described Edo Queens as ambassadors of Edo State and Nigeria, stressing that the team’s continental campaign goes beyond football, as it provides an opportunity to showcase the state’s sporting talent on the African stage.

“I am also calling on other churches and mosques across Edo State to join us in praying for Edo Queens. We want our girls to know that the entire state is behind them,” he said.

Tenebe also appealed to Edo indigenes at home and abroad to continue supporting the team and keep the players and officials in their prayers throughout the competition.

“Edo Queens are not going to Burkina Faso alone. They are carrying the hopes and aspirations of Edo people and, indeed, representing Nigeria,” he said.

He urged the players to remain focused, disciplined and determined, saying the prayers and support from home should provide additional motivation as they face strong opposition in the WAFU B qualifiers.

The qualifiers offer Edo Queens a pathway to the CAF Women’s Champions League, Africa’s premier women’s club competition. Securing qualification would give the team the opportunity to compete against some of the continent’s leading clubs while further promoting women’s football in Edo State.
Tenebe also called on Edo indigenes and Nigerian supporters resident in Burkina Faso to attend the matches and rally behind the team.

“If you are in Burkina Faso, we hope to see you at the stadium. Your presence, your voices and your support can make a difference,” he said.

He assured the players that the club’s leadership would continue to provide the necessary backing, while urging them to give their best and make Edo people proud.

“Our message to the players is simple: go out there, play with courage, discipline and determination. You are representing Edo State and Nigeria,” Tenebe said.

“Let us stand together for our girls. Let us pray for them, support them and believe in them. We want Edo Queens to return home victorious,” he added.
