Some female law students of the University of Calabar (Unical) have protested in the campus against the alleged rampant demand for sex by some lecturers in exchange for higher grades. The #Unical protest, the said, seeks to expose the long-standing issue of sexual harassment within the faculty.

The peaceful protest, which held yesterday August 15, 2023, Midwest Herald learnt, was designed to draw attention to the harrowing experiences that female students have endured from randy lecturers.

The female law students, holding placards with slogans condemning sexual harassment (“let the girl with big breast breath. stop suffocating us”), voiced their concerns about the incessant harassment within the faculty.

The situation became worse during the protest when the protesting students got wind of the faculty’s inability to meet deadlines, resulting in graduate students not being mobilized for Nigerian Law School.

The peaceful protest has not gone unnoticed as the students are alleging threats from the university, obviously for dragging the school to public scrutiny.

Specifically, the girls specifically fingered Prof Cyril Ndifon, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, as the alleged harbinger of the unbecoming misconduct of the lectures.

The protesters accused him of incessantly in the practice of demanding for sexual from female students in exchange for higher marks. At press time, Prof Ndifon was yet to react to the accusation that has been levelled against him.

Video showing the protesting female students and their male supporters was shared In a viral on Twitter, with the students were seen holding placards with different inscriptions, calling out the lecturer for allegedly harassing them. One of the placards had “We are tired of sucking dicks” and another, “Enough of Law School Manipulation.” Others had, “Law Students are not Bonanza”; “Prof. Ndifon Should Stop Grabbing Us.”, “The Faculty of Law is not a Brothel.”

Yet, another placard read: “Prof. Ndifon, Let the Girls with Big Breasts Breathe, Don’t Suffocate Us.”

The video was shared by @_nwatuofficial on Twitter, the students alleged that the lecturer engages in law school manipulation, adding that he must go for their sanity.

The allegations is generating lots of reactions on social media, with many joining the students to lend their voices against the alleged sexual harassment.

Sexual harassment is a prevailing phenomenon in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions which has several interventions by stakeholders.

Some twitter users fingered the university administrators for hiding identified sexual offenders in their payroll. A user “It will interest you to know that this same Professor was suspended in 2015 for raping a law student in his office.” @UnkleAyo wrote.
