A former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Frank Okiye has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Okiye cited as part of his reasons, the alienation of his constituents and supporters by Governor Godwin Obaseki from the activities and programmes of the PDP.

According to his letter addressed to the relevant party organs, his resignation is with immediate effect.

The letter dated Friday, May 10, 2024 and addressed to the Ward 3 chairman of the PDP in Arue-Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area, Okiye singled out the remark by Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the PDP governorship candidate, that he will “continue with the governor’s principles should he win the September 21 election.”

The letter reads: “I write to formally inform you of my withdrawal of membership of the People DeI write to officially inform you of my mocratic Party(PDP)with immediate effect.

“This decision is stemmed from the alienation of the majority of my constituents and supporters by the State Govemment under Governor Obaseki from the activities and programs of the party and the Government of the state.

“As if that is not enough the party candidate has declared that he would continue in the Govemors Principle should he win the September election, other reasons are those personal to me,” Mr. Okiye stated.
