Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Mr. Osarodion Ogie have held a consultative meeting with selected Edo South leaders.

The gathering was hosted by ex governor Lucky Igbinedion and Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, also a former governor. Also in attendance, was Senator Ehigie Uzamere, two term federal legislator from Edo South.

At the meeting which held in Chief Oyegun’s Benin City home, Midwest Herald gathered that, the PDP candidate pledged his ‘unalloyed’ loyalty to the two former governors.

A source who attended the meeting told our reporter that the two former governors of the state, Chief John Odigie Oyegun and Chief Lucky Igbinedion in return, endorsed Asue and promised to deliver him as governor of Edo State come September 21, 2024.

Following the meeting, younger elements that were present but felt aggrieved by the wholesale endorsement of Asue by the two former governors, saw it as a betrayal of Benin interest.

“How can these two men endorse Asue in an election we have two Benins, Mr. Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata and Dr. Isaiah Osifo as candidates of APGA and LP?

“These are persons who have never won their units and ward in all elections. We have it on records that Uzamere lost his unit and ward in the last presidential election where his leader, Atiku Abubakar lost to President Bola Tinubu.

“Peter Obi of Labour Party won in Uzamere’s Iguoshodin ward. We see the move by these persons who are claiming to be leaders in Edo South as disrespectful to we, the younger ones.

“We are happy this happened in our presence and we shall wait and see how they will use us to achieve their plan,” the visibly angry University of Benin teacher told Midwest Herald reporter in Oyegun’s residence.
