APC Governors Plot to Stop Uzodimma’s Senate Bid as Imo Deputy Governor Allegedly Forced to Resign
Fresh tension is reportedly brewing within the ruling All Progressives Congress over the senatorial ambition of Hope Uzodimma, amid claims that some party governors are uncomfortable with his growing political influence.

According to reports by The Nation, concerns over Uzodimma’s alleged plan to seek a Senate seat while still serving as governor contributed to an unsuccessful move to remove him as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) during Thursday’s meeting.

Sources within the party claimed several governors believed Uzodimma was attempting to consolidate too much power, noting that he currently serves as governor of Imo State, Chairman of the PGF, and head of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, while also reportedly eyeing a seat in the Senate with the long-term ambition of becoming Senate President in the 11th National Assembly.

Although some governors were said to be dissatisfied with the development, insiders claimed they ultimately chose not to oppose him openly out of respect for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Reports further indicated that pressure was mounting on the APC leadership to compel Uzodimma to decide between completing his tenure as governor and pursuing his senatorial ambition.

One source alleged that the Imo State deputy governor had already been pressured to resign, with the resignation letter reportedly being withheld pending the outcome of the National Assembly elections.

The source claimed the arrangement was designed to allow Uzodimma emerge as senator before handing over power to a loyal political ally, while a relative would allegedly become deputy governor.
Another insider alleged that the plan had been in motion for nearly a year and was reportedly conceived during meetings in London involving a former governor who currently serves in the Senate.

The source also claimed that intelligence reports surrounding the alleged political arrangement influenced moves by Senate President Godswill Akpabio to advocate changes to Senate rules, amid concerns over Uzodimma’s ambition to eventually lead the Senate.

However, none of the allegations have been officially confirmed by Uzodimma, the APC, or other parties mentioned in the report.
