Former Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Mustapha Bala Dawaki, has officially defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dawaki, who previously represented the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives, dumped the ruling APC barely one week after failing to secure the party’s return ticket through a consensus arrangement.
The development was confirmed on Monday by Saifullahi Hassan, media aide to prominent NDC leader and Kwankwasiyya figure, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
According to Hassan, Dawaki’s defection was formalized during a meeting held at Kwankwaso’s residence on Miller Road in Kano.
“Leader (Kwankwaso) has today received the former Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, Mustapha Bala Dawaki (Mai Gidan Ruwa), into the NDC Kwankwasiyya movement,” Hassan stated in a post shared on his verified Facebook page.
The move comes at a time when the NDC is finalizing the distribution of party tickets across Kano State through consensus-based negotiations.
Despite the high-profile defection, it is yet to be confirmed whether Dawaki will automatically secure the party’s ticket to contest in the forthcoming elections under the NDC platform.
