ABUJA, Nigeria — May 12, 2026 — Nigeria and Serbia have taken fresh steps toward strengthening bilateral economic and diplomatic relations following a high-level meeting between Ambassador-designate to Hungary and Serbia, Ambassador (Engr.) Abass Braimah, and officials of the Serbian Embassy in Abuja.

The courtesy visit, hosted by Serbian Chargé d’Affaires Aleksandra Jerić, focused on expanding cooperation in trade, infrastructure development, and technical partnerships ahead of Ambassador-designate Abass Braimah’s formal deployment to the Balkan region.

The meeting also drew prominent figures from Nigeria’s diplomatic and business communities, including Domingo Obende, President of the Nigerian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, and Aaron Aruna Braimah, described as a strategic stakeholder in the mission’s regional objectives.

In a development seen as a boost for investor confidence, Bratislav Stisovic attended the meeting on behalf of Energoprojekt, one of Serbia’s largest engineering and construction companies. His participation signaled renewed Serbian interest in Nigeria’s infrastructure and housing sectors, particularly under the administration’s “Renewed Hope” development agenda.

Speaking during the engagement, Ambassador-designate Braimah said his administration would prioritize practical economic diplomacy and technical collaboration.

“Our mission is to move beyond traditional diplomacy into the realm of technical partnership,” he said. “With Serbia’s world-class expertise in construction and Nigeria’s vast developmental needs, we are creating a corridor for sustainable growth that benefits both Belgrade and Abuja.”
Senator Obende emphasized the role of the Nigerian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce in connecting Serbian technical expertise with opportunities in the Nigerian market.

He described the participation of major Serbian firms at an early stage of diplomatic engagement as evidence of Serbia’s strategic interest in Nigeria as a key West African partner.
Chargé d’Affaires Jerić welcomed Braimah’s appointment, noting that the early approval of his agrément by Belgrade reflected the confidence Serbian authorities have in his leadership and diplomatic mission.

The engagement marks Ambassador-designate Braimah’s first major diplomatic outing since his induction in Abuja and is expected to shape Nigeria’s expanding relations with Central and South-Eastern Europe as he prepares to assume duties in Budapest with oversight responsibilities across the Balkan corridor.
