Shaibu Joins Edo Guber Race, Ready to Flag Off ‘Generation Next People’s Movement’
By Moses Abehe
Barring any further red tape and last minute events, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Comrade Philip Shaibu will officially flag-off his campaign for nomination as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the September 21, 2024 governorship election in the state.
Multiple trusted sources told Midwest Herald last night, that different groups have concluded plans for the commencement of Comrade Shaibu’s ‘Generation Next Peoples Movement.’
Nigerians can recall that Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Shaibu have locked horns over succession plan.
The ‘one-in-town’ public show between Godwin and Shaibu eventually landed the in Federal High Court, Abuja in Shaibu’s bid to frustrate plans by Obaseki to Impeachment him.
The deputy governor subsequently withdrew the case from court as a pre-condition for olive branch from Obaseki.
On two occasions, Nigerians were treated to spectacle when security details barred Shaibu from accessing Obaseki during the church service to mark Edo State at 32.
The following day, Obaseki’s Chief Press Secretary Mr. Andrew Okungbowa prevented Comrade Shaibu’s Press Crew from entering Sir Victor Uwaifo’s creative hub, venue of Edo State at 32 Colloquium.
In anger, the deputy governor stormed out of the event in protest. Obaseki retaliated by disbanding Shaibu’s media crew.
The already bad relationship assumed irreconcilable level when Obaseki finally evicted his deputy from his official office in Edo State Government House to a makeshift building about 1000 meters away outside the precinct of Dennis Osadebey Avenue.
Midwest Herald gathered that, the ‘Generation Next People’s Movement’ intend to resonate the ‘No godfatherism’ political mantra which started 2007 in Edo State.
