The British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC) has stated that they are standing by their story that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Chicago State University (CSU) certificate is was not forged.

The global media outfit’s latest position is in reaction to petition forwarded to it by the Atiku Abubakar, the defeated People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate. BBC in categorical language insisted on the content of their story.

A letter signed by BBC Complaints Team, addressed to it ‘Audience Member’ over the weekend, expressed regret that some people are unhappy with BBC findings on the authentication of Tinubu’s CSU diploma.

The BBC letter reads: “Dear Audience Member, Thank you for taking time to write to us. We received a number of similar complaints and we regret that you are unhappy with our findings on this matter.

“We have looked into this and the BBC has not seen any evidence that the certificate was forged.

“We contacted the Chicago State University and they confirmed that Bola Tinubu graduated from the university in 1979 with a Bachelor’s degree.

“We believe our text piece has been informative and responsible, reporting known facts. We therefore stand by our journalism.”

It will be recalled that Atiku had lodged a formal complaint with the BBC management about the article that exonerated Tinubu of certificate forgery.

While defending the story, BBC insisted that, their report stands, because it believes the article is the truth, adding that the CSU also confirmed the authenticity of the certificate before they went public with the story.

Other media houses, including the Midwest Herald has already debunked claims that the certificate obtained by President Bola Tinubu from the Chicago State University (CSU), was forged.

The BBC, in an earlier report titled: ‘Bola Tinubu diploma: No evidence Nigeria’s president forged college record’, revealed that their findings vindicate the Nigerian president of certificate forgery as alleged.

But the report and the reporters were attacked from certain quarters including the camp of the Atiku and his PDP supporters.
