Governor-Elect Monday Okpebholo receives his Certificate of Return

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) today, September 26, 2024, presented certificate of return to the winner of the Edo State Governorship election, Senator Monday Okpebholo, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his Deputy Governor-Elect, Hon. Dennis Idahosa.

The presentation ceremony took the INEC headquarters in Abuja in the presence of APC stalwart, including national chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Edo State Chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe; Senator Adams Oshiomhole amongst others.

INEC had declared Okpebholo winner of the September 21 keenly contested election after polling 291,667 votes to beat Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 247,274 votes to second position.

Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) came a distant third in the race with 22,763 votes.

The APC candidate won the contest amidst accusation that the People’s Democratic Party, falsify the results that were uploaded into the INEC-IREV.

Today’s ceremony, signals the advent of a new administration on November 12, 2024 in Edo State.
