The member representing Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Marcus Onobun, has clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to seek reelection for a second term.
Onobun secured a landslide victory in the keenly contested primary election, polling 6,897 votes to emerge winner by a wide margin.
His closest challenger, Mr. Paul Ogedegbe, came second with 3,738 votes, while Mr. Mathias Ehizua placed third with 2,446 votes.
Meanwhile, Mr. Lucky Esegbe—who was widely rumoured to be the preferred consensus candidate allegedly backed by Governor Monday Okpebholo—finished in a distant fourth position.
The outcome of the primary has been described by party observers as a strong statement against perceived imposition, with Onobun’s overwhelming support making his victory evident long before the final results were announced.
