There are indications that the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Olumide Akpata, who resigned his position as Senior Partner from Templars, a leading law firm on Thursday August 24, 2023, and the fiery political activist, Aisha Yesufu may team up to “rescue Edo State“, a source told Midwest Herald this Friday August 25, 2023.

If the plan works out, Yesufu will pair Akpata as running mate in next governorship election that has been predicted to be decisive in the lives of Edo people.

While announcing his resignation, the former NBA President revealed that he was leaving the firm to “contribute to the critical task of nation building.”

It will be recalled that, Akpata had joined the Labour Party (LP) and expressed his interest to contest the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State.

It has been uneasy calm in Edo LP since declaring his interest in the race. Midwest Herald can authoritatively report that, the leadership of the party, including Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates in the party have all witnessed ‘naira rain’, courtesy of the ex NBA president.

Speaking about his LP membership via his Twitter handle last Tuesday, Akpata explained that he joined the political party because he was tired of complaining about Nigeria every day.

The news of Akpata’s prospect is also generating interest outside Edo State, especially within the Obidient family, including that of the Edo State born political activist – Aisha Yesufu.

Reacting, Yesufu via her Twitter page today, Yesufu said Akpata’s decision to join politics is fantastic news.

“Fantastic News! This politics ehn, all of us go gather do am.

“We can no longer afford to leave politics to charlatans that continuously degrade our lives.

“Good governance comes from politics so political participation is critical. We will clean it up.”

A national leader of the Labour Party told Midwest Herald today, that the party will approach the Edo election with all seriousness, starting with the choice of who will fly the LP flag.

“If you ask me, Olumide Akpata and Aisha Yesufu will be a fantastic pair, considering that, Edo is already a home to Labour Party.”
