Sources close to Midwest Herald have revealed that the outgoing governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki may have returned back to Nigeria yesterday, amidst speculation that he had absconded from the dragnet of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
One of the governor’s aide confided in our reporter that Obaseki was prevailed upon by other Peoples Democratic Governors to return and provide leadership for the party in the state at this “critical period in the tribunal.”
Obaseki reportedly arrived Lagos yesterday evening from Italy, “amidst serious pressure from his political sons, Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie.” One of the sources claimed.
The PDP governorship candidate and his running mate who recently lost the elections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, have allegedly been complaining to major stakeholder in PDP at the National level that, Mr. Obaseki had abandoned them in their trying times.
A privileged source volunteered that in a PDP Governors Forum meeting held via zoom last Wednesday night, Governor Bala Mohammed, chairman governors forum and other PDP governors had asked Gov. Obaseki to return to Nigeria immediately to help the candidates with INEC and tribunal processes.
It has been alleged also, that Obaseki has mobilized some key members of Asue and Ogie campaign team to recruit protesters to the Benin City office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for daily protests.
