The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has warned its members in Anambra State against supporting the presidential ambition of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

The party said supporting Obi and the NDC would undermine APGA’s political strength in Anambra, urging its members to remain loyal to the party and protect its political structure.

APGA National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, issued the warning in a statement titled “A Betrayal Alert for Ndi APGA.”

Opara questioned Obi’s continued political relationship with APGA, alleging that the former governor had supported candidates and political forces opposed to APGA in successive electoral cycles since leaving the party.

He asked: “If Mr Peter Obi so loved APGA, why has he fought so hard against APGA in every electoral cycle?”

The APGA spokesman further alleged that Obi had candidates positioned against APGA candidates for virtually every elective position the party was contesting.

“APGA made Peter Obi, yet Peter Obi wants to destroy APGA,” he alleged.

The party consequently urged its members not to support Obi and the NDC, declaring that there was no formal or informal agreement between APGA and the NDC on power-sharing.

According to Opara, APGA remains a recognised political party, while he described the NDC as a “Special Purpose Vehicle.”

The party also defended its decision to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying its position was based not only on APGA’s traditional collaboration with the party at the centre but also on what it described as the Tinubu administration’s infrastructural development efforts in the South-East.

APGA urged its members to remain united and protect what it described as the party’s political stronghold in Anambra.

“Anambra is APGA. It remains in our informed best interest to defend our fortress,” the party stated.

The warning comes amid heightened political tensions between APGA and Obi as preparations intensify for the 2027 presidential election. Obi has not, in the reports reviewed, publicly responded to APGA’s latest allegations.
