APC Restricts Election Committees From Announcing Results in States

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has directed all chairmen of its National Assembly Primary Election Committees to refrain from conducting media briefings in their states of assignment, insisting that all official announcements relating to the primaries will be handled centrally in Abuja.
In a circular dated May 17, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, the party outlined established procedures for the collation and announcement of results from the National Assembly primary elections.
According to the circular, the results collation process will follow four stages: Ward Collation, Local Government Area (LGA) Collation, Designated Constituency Collation Centres, and final submission of results and reports to the party’s national headquarters.
The APC stressed that no committee is authorised to address the media at the state level during the exercise.
“Accordingly, no committee is permitted to conduct media briefings within their respective state of assignment,” the circular stated.
It added that “any official briefing, where necessary, shall be conducted exclusively in Abuja after the submission of all results.”
The directive was copied to APC State Party Chairmen across the country, as the party moves to ensure uniformity and central control in the management of the primary election process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
