As part of the preparation for the 2024 governorship election in Edo State, the All Progressives Congress (APC), over the weekend held critical stakeholders meeting in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The meeting which was convened by the state party chairman, Col Dr. David Imuse, was held behind closed door at the Benin City residence of His Excellency Senator Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Major outcomes of the meeting is the lifting of the suspensions imposed on some leaders and members for alleged anti-party activities against the party in the last general election, and the appointment of former deputy governor, His Excellency, Dr. Egberanmwen Pius Odubu as the Edo South Senatorial leader.

All the suspended members of the party from the unit to ward to local government and state levels were forgiven their ‘sins’ and all told to resume their membership of the party.

Leaders of the party who were present at the meeting agreed that with the coming of Dr. Pius Odubu as leader of Edo South Senatorial District, APC is ready to ensure strong presence, as the party prepares for the 2024 governorship election in the state.

A leader who attended the meeting told Midwest Herald that, Odubu’s open door policy and his grassroots political strength, with proven electoral victories, and coupled with his acceptance across all political parties in the state, paved way for his emergence as the new APC senatorial leader.

In his acceptance remark, Odubu said the success of the party in 2024 will be the collective responsibility of everyone, while soliciting for the total support of all party members across the zone and state in general.

Dr. Pius Odubu charged APC leaders that it was time for them to change the narrative in Edo State politics.

The meeting Midwest Herald learnt, was restricted to strategic leaders drawn from all the 18 local government areas of the state. Leaders that were present at the meeting praised Senator Adams Oshiomhole for being able to ensure that there was an end to the perceived leadership tussle in the party.

Odubu, the newly elected political leader of Edo South Senatorial District is a two-term member of the House of Representatives for Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency in the fourth and fifth National Assembly and a two-term Deputy Governor to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole between 2008 and 2016.
