Aiguobasinmwin Movement Hails Gov. Okpebholo Over Iyamu’s Appointment as Consumer Protection Committee Chairman

The leadership and members of the Aiguobasinmwin Movement Worldwide (AMW) have expressed appreciation to the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for appointing their President, Mr. Iyamu Osaro Destiny (Culture), as Chairman of the Edo State Consumer Protection Committee.

The group described the appointment as a demonstration of the governor’s commitment to placing competent and credible individuals in strategic positions to safeguard consumers and combat the circulation of fake and counterfeit products across the state.

In a statement jointly signed by Iyamu Osaro Destiny (Culture), Uhunoma Ewere Lucky, Assistant Secretary, and Monday Ohuimumwen, JP, Diaspora Coordinator, the movement said the appointment signals a new era of people-centred governance in Edo State.

According to the statement, “The appointment is a clear indication that Governor Monday Okpebholo is determined to protect the interests of Edo people by ensuring that the Consumer Protection Committee is led by a capable hand. We are confident that the committee will work proactively to eliminate counterfeit and substandard products while promoting consumer rights and safety.”

The movement further noted that Edo residents stand to benefit immensely from the governor’s vision of accountable and responsive governance through the activities of the Consumer Protection Committee.

It will be recalled that a few days ago, Mr. Iyamu led members of the Aiguobasinmwin Movement to the Edo State Government House in Benin City, where they complained about what the group described as the “unfair treatment” of Benin people.

The delegation was received by the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Musa Ikhilor, who assured them that Governor Monday Okpebholo would give due consideration to the concerns and interests raised by the group.

It will also be recalled that Governor Monday Okpebholo, in an appointment letter dated July 13, 2026, approved the appointment of Iyamu Osaro Destiny as Chairman of the Edo State Consumer Protection Committee. The appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Musa Ikhilor.
