Tinubu Swears in New APC Leadership, Urges Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections

President Bola Tinubu on Friday officially inaugurated the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling on party leaders to remain united and focused as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration followed the party’s national convention and signals a reshaping of the APC’s leadership structure, with several key changes emerging from a largely consensus-based selection process.
Administering the oath of office, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, charged the new executives to uphold the party’s principles, stressing the importance of discipline, loyalty, and service.

One of the most notable changes in the new lineup is the replacement of Emma Enukwu as Deputy National Chairman (South) by Ben Nwoye, a move seen as a shift in influence within the party’s southern leadership. Observers say the development reflects broader efforts to reposition the APC ahead of future elections, while also hinting at subtle internal realignments.
Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in officials, National Chairman Nantawe Yilwatda described their emergence as a responsibility rather than a privilege.
“This is not a crown but a burden of leadership,” he said, pledging unity and commitment to strengthening democratic values within the party.
Yilwatda assured party members that the new leadership would prioritise transparency, inclusiveness, and cohesion, while embracing diverse views within the APC.
He also highlighted the party’s role in shaping Nigeria’s political future, stressing the need for early and strategic mobilisation ahead of the next elections.
According to him, the APC will intensify efforts to connect with Nigerians across regions and demographics as part of its campaign strategy for 2027.
“The task before us requires reaching every Nigerian, regardless of background or location,” he said.
While most positions were filled through consensus, a few contests stood out. Donatus Nwankpa retained his position as National Welfare Secretary after defeating Nduka Anyanwu in one of the convention’s few competitive races.
However, the removal of Chidi Duru as Deputy Organising Secretary came as a surprise, drawing quiet reactions from party delegates and observers.
Overall, the inauguration highlights the APC’s attempt to present a united front ahead of the next electoral cycle, even as internal changes suggest evolving power dynamics within the party.
With the 2027 elections approaching, the new leadership faces the immediate challenge of managing internal expectations, addressing public concerns, and positioning the party for success in an increasingly competitive political environment.
