The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, today March 9, 2026, delivered a landmark judgment that affirmed the suspension of some high-ranking National Officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar Bature; and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN.

The appellate court’s decision upholds the earlier resolution by the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC), effectively dismissing the legal challenges mounted by the embattled officers.

The court, in its lead judgment, validated the disciplinary processes initiated by the PDP, citing the supremacy of the party’s constitution in internal administrative matters.

Specifically, the ruling affirmed the authority of the party by recognizing the power of the NWC to suspend officers found to be in violation of party discipline and constitutional provisions.

The appellate court dismissed all prayers seeking to nullify the suspension and reinstate the officers to their respective positions were dismissed for lacking in merit.

The suspension of the officers followed allegations of anti-party activities and conduct “inconsistent with the provisions of the PDP Constitution.”
