The All Progressives Congress (APC) harvested more members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today, as Senator Matthew Aisagbonrodion Urhoghide formally defected to the party at an event in Benin City today.
Eight other former Local Government Council Chairmen also abandoned the PDP ship in what insiders said was a dress rehearsal.
Senator Uroghide at the occasion, described himself as a foundation member of the APC and said he is glad to return to the fold of mature politicians, “a party, in whose leaders he trusts and has confidence.”
The former Senator assured the party that he has returned to help build the party and ensure victory for Senator Monday Okpebholo in the September 21, 2024 Edo governorship election.
A former Clerk of the House of Representatives and candidate for the Owan Federal Constituency in the 2023 election, Mr. Patrick Giwa also joined the APC.
Top APC leaders including Senator Adams Oshiomhole, State Chairman Emperor Jarrett Tenebe and Secretary of the party, Engr. Lawrence Orka as well as other State Executive Committee members were on the ground to receive the fresh entrants into the party.
During the event, Oshiomhole who apologised to Senator Urhoghide for the error in judgment years ago which led to him choosing another senatorial aspirant over him, welcomed the man popularly called ‘Matto’ back to the fold.
He described Senator Uroghide among others as a robust resourceful, dogged, politician whose wealth of experience will have a great impact on the party’s chances of success.
Senator Oshiomhole subsequently announced the appointment of Urhoghide as the Director General for the Senator Monday Okpebholo Campaign Organisation.
