Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has charged residents of Oredo Local Government Area to intensify grassroots mobilisation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that Edo must deliver 2.5 million votes for the President.

Okpebholo gave the charge at the Oredo APC campaign rally, where he expressed confidence that the people of Edo State were ready to support Tinubu and other APC candidates at all levels in the forthcoming elections.

The governor said his administration’s achievements in security, road infrastructure, urban renewal, education and other critical sectors would form the cornerstone of the party’s campaign, stressing that the projects being executed across the state were visible evidence of its commitment to development.

He dismissed criticisms on social media as an unreliable measure of public opinion, recounting how one of his administration’s persistent critics recently acknowledged the government’s achievements after visiting Edo State.

According to him, the individual admitted that although he frequently criticised the administration online to attract followers, he had personally witnessed the development projects being executed across the state.

Okpebholo said the encounter reinforced his conviction that tangible performance and delivery of public infrastructure mattered more than criticisms on social media.

He listed improvements in security, developments along the Sapele Road corridor, road construction, flyovers, markets, schools and the new Government Reserved Area (GRA) among the achievements of his administration.

The governor also questioned the motives of some politicians seeking public office, alleging that certain individuals were interested in acquiring political power to use the police and other instruments of government to dispossess innocent residents of their lands.

Using a family analogy, he urged Edo people to sustain what he described as the progress being recorded in the state by supporting continuity at the federal level.

He called on residents to mobilise their families, friends, associates and neighbours to vote for Tinubu and other APC candidates in 2027.

Reiterating his 2.5 million-vote target for Tinubu in Edo, Okpebholo emphasised that every vote would count, insisting on the principle of one man, one vote.

Earlier, Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in the 2027 general elections, arguing that the quality of candidates fielded by a political party was critical to its electoral success.

He assured the governor that Edo would deliver the required votes for President Tinubu, while commending him for providing infrastructure projects that the party could showcase during its campaign.

“Once you have good candidates for an election, the election is 100 per cent won. President Tinubu will get 100 per cent of what he needs from Edo State. Mr Governor, thank you for giving us projects to campaign with,” Idahosa said.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the Edo State Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, described Oredo as a strategic political constituency in Edo South Senatorial District.

He challenged APC members and supporters in the local government to work towards delivering more than 100,000 votes for the party, noting that such an achievement would make a significant contribution to the governor’s 2.5 million-vote target for President Tinubu.

The APC State Chairman, Chief Jarrett Tenebe; former House of Representatives member, Ogbeide Ihama; Paddy Iyamu; and other party leaders also addressed the rally, urging members to embrace unity, strengthen grassroots mobilisation and sustain engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.

The rally attracted party leaders, elected officials, supporters and grassroots mobilisers from across Oredo Local Government Area as the APC intensified its ward-level mobilisation and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
