President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to building a prosperous Nigeria, declaring that his determination to advance national development and invest in the future of young Nigerians has been strengthened by his recent spiritual experience in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The President made the declaration on Monday, November 2, 2026, while reflecting on his Umrah pilgrimage, during which he and members of the Nigerian delegation were granted the rare privilege of entering the Holy Ka’abah in Makkah to offer prayers.
President Tinubu expressed profound gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for extending the historic privilege to him and his delegation.
The President described the experience as a deeply cherished spiritual moment and a reflection of the longstanding friendship, mutual respect and cooperation between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
Sheikh Dahlulah Muthawal of Masjid al-Haram led the President into the sacred Ka’abah, where Tinubu offered prayers of gratitude to Almighty Allah for the privilege of serving as Nigeria’s President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Expressing his appreciation, Tinubu said the experience was historic and particularly symbolic, noting that the green and white colours surrounding the Ka’abah reminded him of Nigeria’s national identity.
“I want to say a big thank you for the faith, for the recognition. I can’t believe the fencing of the Ka’abah is in Green-White-Green, which reminds us of the Nigerian identity.
“I thank the Crown Prince and all the administrators of the holy land. I thank them for the hospitality and recognition given to me as the leader of the delegation and the country,” he said.
The President, who acknowledged the challenges confronting nations across the world, expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome its difficulties through faith in Almighty Allah.
“We are all facing challenges and hostility around us. We will overcome them with faith in God Almighty. I’m grateful forever. I thank the King and the royal Crown Prince.
“It is an honour that I enjoyed, and it is gracious of them to have allowed me to enter inside the Ka’abah. This is history,” he added.
Explaining the significance of his prayers, Tinubu disclosed that he specifically asked Almighty Allah for wisdom and resilience to continue serving Nigerians, expressing confidence that his supplications had been answered.
“Well, I asked for wisdom and resilience to continue to serve the people. I know that prayer has been granted. Before the 2023 election, I did the same thing. I asked Allah to bless my Umrah then, and He did. And I promised that I would come back to thank Him,” the President stated.
Reflecting on Surah Aal-Imran, Verse 26 of the Holy Qur’an, which declares Almighty Allah as the ultimate owner of sovereignty, who gives power to whom He wills and takes it away from whom He wills, Tinubu stressed that political authority is a divine trust that must be exercised with humility, responsibility and commitment to the welfare of the people.
“There is no other God but Almighty Allah. He is the giver and the taker. He owns power and authority. He says, ‘If I give you, use it well. If you don’t use it in accordance with my dictates, I can take it from you and give it to another person. I am the only One who has that authority,'” he said.
The President described his emergence as Nigeria’s leader as an extraordinary blessing from Almighty Allah, noting that the privilege of leading a country of more than 200 million people comes with an enormous responsibility to deliver purposeful leadership.
He said his spiritual experience had further strengthened his commitment to Project Nigeria and his determination to pursue policies capable of delivering prosperity, national development and shared progress.
“My commitment to Project Nigeria is higher. I am determined to usher in prosperity and fully develop the country, consistent with the wish of Allah and the support of the people.
“It is important to put Allah first, then move on. Follow your conscience. Follow the right path that will lead Nigeria to that greatness,” Tinubu declared.
On the economy, the President expressed optimism about the direction of the country’s economic recovery, describing the foundation being laid by his administration as solid and Nigeria’s emergence from a difficult economic period as encouraging.
“The foundation is solid, and the economy has come out of the dark tunnel. This is inspiring,” he said.
Tinubu, however, emphasised that sustainable national development must be anchored on deliberate investments in the future of young Nigerians, warning that the decisions taken by present-day leaders would determine how future generations judge their stewardship.
“We need to build a future for our youth. If we don’t invest in their future, how do we want to be remembered as leaders 50 years from now? That’s the main thing. So this is a rare privilege to lead the country,” he added.
He assured Nigerians that his administration would remain committed to strengthening the economy, expanding opportunities for young people and creating an enabling environment for citizens to realise their potential.
The President also reiterated his determination to justify the confidence Nigerians had placed in him through purposeful leadership, responsible governance and an enduring commitment to national progress.
Meanwhile, members of the Nigerian delegation expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah and President Tinubu for the opportunity to enter the Holy Ka’abah and pray within Islam’s most sacred sanctuary.
Those visibly moved by the spiritual experience included the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate; and governors of Borno, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kaduna, Yobe and Kwara States.
Prominent business leaders, including Chairman of BUA Group, Abdulsamad Rabiu, and Oando Chief Executive Officer, Wale Tinubu, were also among those who expressed appreciation for the rare privilege.
The development further highlighted the significance of the President’s spiritual journey and the special recognition accorded to Nigeria by the Saudi Arabian leadership.
The statement was issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on November 2, 2026.
