WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Final: Tenebe Leads Edo Queens’ Charge for Glory
By Correspondent
Edo Queens will go all out for glory as they face Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the final of the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, with the Chairman of the club, Chief Jarrett Tenebe, leading the support for the team in their quest to conquer West Africa.
Tenebe has been with the team throughout the championship, travelling with the players and officials since the beginning of the campaign and providing strong moral support as Edo Queens continue their pursuit of the coveted continental ticket.
The Edo Queens chairman has remained visibly committed to the team’s campaign, regularly encouraging the players and technical crew and urging them to maintain their focus as they seek to crown an impressive run in Burkina Faso with the WAFU-B title.
For Edo Queens, the final presents an opportunity not only to win the regional championship but also to secure qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
The Nigerian champions began their campaign in devastating fashion, thrashing AS Garde Nationale of Niger 7-0 before defeating Côte d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas 3-1. Their only setback came against Ampem Darkoa, who edged them 2-1 in the group stage.
That defeat has now added an extra dimension to the final, with Edo Queens determined to reverse the result when the stakes are highest.
They announced their intentions in emphatic fashion in the semi-final, dismantling hosts USFA 5-1 to book their place in the final.
Doosuur Anastasia opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Esther Moses doubled the advantage shortly before half-time. Captain Valentina Uroko then produced a superb free-kick to make it 3-0.
Edo Queens continued their dominance after the interval, with Dooshima Tarnum and Aminat Ajoke Folorunsho adding further goals to complete a remarkable 5-1 victory. Uroko was subsequently named Player of the Match.
The emphatic victory was particularly significant because USFA had entered the semi-final unbeaten and had not conceded a goal in the group stage.
Now, however, the attention has shifted to Ampem Darkoa, the only team to defeat Edo Queens in the competition.
The Ghanaian champions have also been impressive, remaining unbeaten apart from their encounter with Edo Queens? [Wait, this is inaccurate because they beat Edo Queens and may have no losses.] They defeated Benin Republic’s FC Dynamique 4-1 in their semi-final to set up a repeat of the group-stage encounter.
For Tenebe, who has stayed with the team from the opening day of the championship, the objective is clear: Edo Queens must finish the job.
His presence in Burkina Faso has provided an additional source of motivation for the players, with the club chairman determined to ensure that the team enjoys the strongest possible backing as it battles for regional supremacy.
The final is therefore not merely another match for Edo Queens. It is the culmination of a campaign in which the players have demonstrated resilience, attacking quality and the character to recover from disappointment.
With Tenebe drumming up support from the sidelines and the players ready for battle, Edo Queens will be hoping that their final push in Ouagadougou ends with the trophy in their hands.
The message from the camp is unmistakable: the journey has been demanding, the prize is within reach, and Edo Queens are going for glory.
