The Aguobasinmwin Movement Worldwide has called on Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo to address what it described as growing concerns among Benin people over alleged unfair treatment by his administration, warning that the grievances should not be ignored.

In a speech delivered when the Pan-Benin group visited the Secretary to Edo State Government, Musa Ikhilo, the group said it supported Governor Okpebholo’s election to restore the identity and interests of the Benin people and called for what it described as fair representation in government appointments and employment.

Speaking, the President of Aguobasinmwin Movement, Iyamu Osaro Culture said: “It’s true that when people work, they deserve reward. The purpose why we supported Governor Okpebholo is not because of personal gain, but to restore our identity and we are glad.”

Continuing, he stressed, “However, we have some concern. First and foremost, our overwhelming support for this government should be reciprocated. We want a correspondent support.

“We have done our part, this government should support our course. Our people are not happy, especially those from the Benin race.

“We will not shy to tell you the truth, hence we were able to defeat Obaseki. When we were talking to Obaseki, he didn’t listen and at the end, he couldn’t handover and we don’t want such thing to happen to this governor.

“Sir our people are complaining that this government is treating them unfair. We want a corresponding equal representation.

“It is the Benins that brought this government. The Benins should be represented across all sector, both employment, appointment, so on and so forth.

“Because most times when we raise alarm, they will say they are fighting themselves and they’re the ones that brought this governor.

“Please we don’t want such to happen so we can tell our people to calm down.”

The movement urged the governor to address the concerns raised, saying it believes doing so would reassure its supporters and strengthen confidence in the administration.
