The All Progressives Congress in Edo State has alleged plans by the People’s Democratic Party in Edo State to militarized the scheduled bye-election in the State to fill the vacant seats in Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia Federal Constituency House of Representatives.
In a press release issued by the APC State Chairman, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe this morning, the party alleged that Chief Francis Inegbeniki and Tony Aizegbemi, caretaker chairman of PDP in the state, have ported thugs into the state to violently attack voters.
Jarrett went ahead to invite the security agencies to stop the alleged plans.
The statement reads in full: “The All Progressives Congress (APC) wish to inform the general public and in particular, electorates in Edo State that we have uncovered a dastardly plan by the remnant of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to cause chaos by attacking some selected polling and collation centres tomorrow, Saturday August, 16 2025, in Edo Central and Ovia Federal Constituencies.
“Reliable surveillance report has identified the ring leaders of the PDP evil plans as those violent agents that murdered Police Inspector Unoh Akor, the orderly that was assigned to Senator Monday Okpebholo in the heat of last September 21, 2025 governorship election in our dear state.
“Last night, a large crowd of thugs suspected to have been imported from neighbouring states were seen gathered at Chief Francis Inegbeniki home in Opoji, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State and they were dispatched last night to various points in Edo Central.
“We have earlier reported to the security agencies that Inegbeniki played a major role in the murder of Inspector Akor, but sadly, he has been left to walk the streets freely unchallenged.
“One of those that attended the briefing informed us that they were brought from neighbouring states for the purpose of the senatorial election.
“Similarly, strange looking youngsters in several unmarked buses were seen last night, parked at the residence of the state Caretaker Chairman of PDP, Mr. Tony Aiziegbemi in Benin City and again we have been told that the unidentified fierce looking men have been dispatched to Ovia North East and Ovia South West Local Government Areas to disrupt the re-run election.
“We are by this notice calling on the Nigerian Police to arrest these PDP leaders and others to stop them from attacking innocent voters—election is not war.
“For the aviodance of doubt, as a substantive State Chairman of the APC in Edo State, I wish to state our resolve to defend the votes that Edo people are ready to cast for our Edo Central Senatorial candidate, Mr. Joe Ikpea, and the Ovia House of Representatives candidate, Hon. Omosede Igninedion and we shall vehemently defend their votes without fear.
“The APC is grounded in the principle of strong democratic core values of free, fair and credible electoral process and we have also campaigned vigorously, as such, we are ready to win both bye-elections overwhelmingly.
“We are advising Aziegbemi and his cohorts that they should not stand on our way to victory, but if they insist on their evil plans to constitute themselves as hurdles, they will be the way.
“In the last two weeks, I have been in Ekiti State along with other APC leaders for a national assignment that will ensure that our party wins the governorship election through democratic means and therefore, we will not allow the PDP and its agents to ring the election we have so worked hard to win in Edo State.
“Tomorrow’s election shall be the testament and confirmation of the 2.5million votes Edo people have promised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. We call on all eligible voters to turn out in their numbers to cast their votes unhindered.”
