The ranging tempest between members of Edo State House of Assembly and Governor Godwin Obaseki is gaining traction despite the denial by Speaker Blessing Agbabaku days ago.

At the centre of the brewing trouble remains the supply of official vehicles which has been delivered to members, which the members are unhappy about.

A member of the assembly who spoke to Midwest Herald, has alleged that the 10 SUVs out of 24 supplied are refurbished Mitsubishi Pajero vehicles and not brand new cars.

Armed with the request by Obaseki to lawmakers for approval of N1.5 billion, which was meant for the purchase of New Prado Jeeps, they threatened to “demand reason for the unacceptable development.”

Trouble started last Thursday November 9, 2023, at the legislators quarters in Benin City when some of the Pajero Jeeps were delivered from Government House to the speaker’s quarters.

The legislators who were around claimed that documents had listed the vehicles on papers as Toyota Prado and not Mitsubishi Pajero that was delivered.

A civil servant privy to the administration of vehicles in the assembly, told reporters yesterday that all vehicles supplied so far, are refurbished in the United Arab Emirates, including the Landcruiser bought for the speaker.

Midwest Herald could not confirm this revelation.

Midwest Herald had earlier reported that the Assembly members were musing confrontation with the governor over the inhabitable condition of their official quarters and refusal of Governor Obaseki to buy their vehicles.

  1. Hmmmmm.
Contractor owed so much in Bendel Brewery Limited are dying one by one. Obaseki promised Heaven and earth, but did nothing. God’s watching.
