Last Tuesday 10th, February, Senator Kyari was unanimously chosen to lead the 49th Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), an international financial institution and a specialised agency of the United Nations that works to address poverty and hunger in rural areas of developing countries.
President Tinubu in his goodwill message, praised Kyari and said, “The election of the Agriculture and Food Security minister is a confidence vote in his capacity and the reforms he spearheads in Nigeria’s agriculture and food security value chain.
“I have confidence that Senator Kyari will give IFAD the right leadership and deepen its relevance and impact, especially at a time of global food security crises.”
Senator Abubakar Kyari’s tenure as Nigeria’s Agriculture Minister has centred on boosting food production capacity, stabilising food prices, promoting mechanisation, creating employment in rural economies, and aligning agricultural policy with national food security objectives.
While challenges like food inflation and implementation at state levels persist, his initiatives reflect a push toward modernising Nigeria’s agricultural sector and strengthening food systems.
