The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretary and former, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Osun State, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru has welcomedbthe judgment of the Court of Appeal reinstating the democratically elected local government councils that was earlier dissolved by the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

The APC scribe expressed joy over the judgment, and said that it was a triumph of the rule of law and the sanctity of the electoral process as it reestablishes the well-enshrined principle that no government, however powerful, can unilaterally and arbitrarily set aside the will of the people and violate the Constitution.

“This judgment is a triumph of the rule of law and the sanctity of the electoral process as it reestablishes the well-enshrined principle that no government, however powerful, can unilaterally and arbitrarily set aside the will of the people and violate the Constitution.

“I commend the judiciary for upholding justice and ensuring that democracy is protected at all levels of governance,” Senator Basiru said.

He added that: “The Court of Appeal judgment considered all grounds of appeal raised in CA/AK/270/2022 against the judgment of the Federal High Court (Justice N. Ayo-Emmanuel), which had nullified the local government elections and ordered the elected officials to vacate office.

“In allowing the appeal, all the reliefs sought by APC were granted, including setting aside the judgment of the Federal High Court and ordering the restoration of the sacked local government councils back to office.

“The Court of Appeal’s decision explicitly affirms the illegality of the dissolution of the democratically elected local government councils in Osun State. The judgment has no ambiguity whatsoever, and any attempt to distort this clear judicial pronouncement amounts to executive lawlessness, which has no place in a democratic society.”

He warned Governor Adeleke that Nigeroa is governed by the rule of law. “This is to remind the Osun State Government that Nigeria is governed by the rule of law and not by executive fiat through illegal executive orders.

“Any attempt to frustrate the enforcement of this judgment will be met with appropriate legal responses. The relevant security agencies must ensure that the democratically elected officials have their lawful rights respected and protected against intimidation or harassment by the Osun State Government.”

Similarly, the Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has hailed the Court of Appeal judgment that reinstated the elected council Chairmen and Councillors who were chased out of office by the state governor when he assumed office two years ago.

The APC lauded the Justices for a sound verdict delivered describing it as a welcome development which has further proven the “power of light over darkness.”

The State Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal in a statement issued through the APC Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, on yesterday Monday 10, 2025, described the Appeal Court’s judgment as “voice populi voice dei”.

The party acknowledged the implications of the judgment which has given the legal backing to the reinstated council officers to return to office with immediate effect.

According to Lawal: “It is worthwhile to commend the judiciary for always proving to be the hope for a common man as manifested in today’s judgment where the Justices of the Court of Appeal unanimously delivered the verdict reinstating the removed APC council Chairmen and Councillors.

“It is still fresh in the memories on how the incumbent Governor Adeleke chased out the elected council officers who were elected in 2022 under the administration of our party’s leader, the then Executive Governor, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola.

“But today, we give thanks to God that light has subsumed darkness and we are victorious.

“The sound judgment unanimously delivered by the Justices of the Appeal Court is a clear testimony of the Osun people’s mandate willingly given to our party in all the 30 Local Government Council Areas and Ife-East Modakeke Area Office.

“We congratulate all the reinstated council Chairmen and Councillors over this judicial victory.

“We equally rejoice with the good people of the state for their resilience and support for our party throughout the the dark period. This is a victory for all”, Lawal added.
