The defection of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State to the All Progressives Congress (APC) imminent. This is despite the previous denial of plans to dump the troubled party to seek reelection on the platform of APC.

His movement reignited after members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and their opposition counterparts in the APC took to the social media to trade tackles.

The latest confirmation of his defection resurfaced during the week and have sparked tense debates among supporters of the governor and those loyal to Adeleke’s predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola.

Oyetola, the current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, is regarded as the leader of the APC in Osun State and also waiting in the flanks to contest the 2026 governorship election with incumbent Adeleke.

Some aides of Governor Adeleke took to their social media pages to share posts announcing the possibility of Adeleke contesting his second-term bid under the platform of the APC, while those loyal to Oyetola’s kicked against the intentions, saying the governor would never be welcomed into the opposition party.

As the rumour gained traction, Some members of the APC in the State on Friday marched to the state party secretariat at Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo, to express their displeasure over moves to win Gov. Ademola Adeleke with an automatic ticket as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2026 election.

The protesters carried placards and chanted slogans rejecting what they described as an “imposition” of Adeleke on the party.

One of the protesters, Taofeek Afolabi, who reportedly identified himself as part of the APC youth leadership, said “We are not saying the party should not accept Gov. Ademola Adeleke, but they should not give him an automatic ticket as the gubernatorial candidate for the 2026 election. He should come and queue like every other aspirant to contest for the ticket.”

However, Adeleke denied his movement and noted with concern the widespread rumour and reassured his supporters and that he remains a member of the PDP and the leader of the party in the state.

He restated his preoccupation with the implementation of his administration’s five point agenda while urging Osun people to ignore “fake news”, promising more delivery of good governance and democratic dividends.

“I assure the good people of Osun that I remain part and parcel of the PDP family. I am not defecting to any party”, the governor was quoted as clarifying.

However, Adeleke’s denial may be a smokescreen as his nephew, and music superstar, David Adeleke, aka Davido released a snippet of his yet to be released song, “The New Broom Go Beta”, which political observers sees as the intending song to herald his uncle into the APC.

The 25 seconds snippet of Davido’s song has the following lyrics:

“The New Broom Go Sweep Better…
Eta Bela Si Ijoba Wa…
Adagbe Adafa…
Alagbada Alafe…
